Mercury star Alyssa Thomas regains single-season assist record

Phoenix Mercury star Alyssa Thomas had 10 assists on Saturday to raise her season total to 342 to reclaim the WNBA single-season assists record.
Thomas set the record of 316 in 2023 before Caitlin Clark had 337 assists last season to break the mark.
But Thomas reclaimed the record with her sixth assist during Saturday's 87-84 loss to the host Connecticut Sun. She was driving the lane before feeding Kathryn Westbeld, who drained a 3-pointer with 4:45 remaining in the second quarter.
Thomas set the mark in her 37th game of the season. Clark played 40 games last year.
Thomas is in her first season with the Mercury after spending 11 seasons with the Sun. The six-time All-Star set a record this season with seven triple-doubles.
Thomas also had 14 points and eight rebounds against Connecticut.
Thomas is averaging 15.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and 9.2 assists after Saturday's game.
