Mandatory Credit: Matthew Childs/Reuters via USA TODAY Sports The New York Mets placed rookie right-handed pitcher Dedniel Nunez on the 15-day injured list Thursday (retroactive to Monday) with right forearm tightness.
Nunez missed about a month while on the IL recovering from a pronator strain in his pitching arm. He made one appearance for the Mets after coming off the IL, striking out three and allowing one hit in 1 2/3 scoreless innings Saturday during a win over the San Diego Padres.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza later revealed that Nunez was "not recovering well" after that appearance, and the team had yet to decide if another IL stint would be needed.
Nunez, 28, is faring well in his first season in the majors. He has pitched to a 2.31 ERA through 25 relief appearances, with a 2-0 record and one save in two opportunities. He gave up just one run in his past seven outings for the Mets, spanning 7 1/3 innings.
New York. which plays the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon, didn't immediately announce a corresponding roster move.
