The 6-foot-8 George, a native of Switzerland, is projected to be a first-round pick. He told ESPN that he is forgoing his remaining college eligibility hiring an agent and submitting paperwork to be eligible for the draft on June 26-27.
"I decided to follow my basketball dream and make it a reality," George told ESPN. "I did not expect anything from this season besides working on my game and getting better every day."
George averaged 7.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 23 minutes in 31 games. He shot 42.6 percent from the field, 40.8 percent from distance and 77.8 percent from the foul line.
He grew 10 inches in the past five years, ESPN reported, and was able to play point guard for the Hurricanes while showing he can shoot from the perimeter and play defense.
"I was able to show NBA teams that I'm a versatile player who could impact the game on both sides of the floor and a good teammate," George told ESPN. "I'm still adapting to my new body, and we are just getting a little taste of what I could do in the future. I have a whole lot more I could show and do."
