Miami, South Carolina cancel home-and-home series starting in 2026

Mandatory Credit: Jasen Vinlove-Imagn Images Miami and South Carolina are canceling their home-and-home series for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, according to On3.
The move is apparently a casualty of the ACC and SEC moving to nine-game conference schedules next season, which forces the Hurricanes and Gamecocks to eliminate a non-conference contest. With South Carolina playing Clemson annually and Miami slated to play Utah in 2027, it didn't make sense to keep an 11th Power 4 opponent on the schedule when the College Football Playoff is the goal for both programs.
Miami was scheduled to visit South Carolina Sept. 5, 2026. The Gamecocks were going to return the favor on Sept. 18, 2027.
The Hurricanes are 8-6-2 all time against the Gamecocks. The two teams last played each other in December 2014 in the Independence Bowl, where South Carolina won 24-21. They last faced off in the regular season in 1987 and first played each other in 1936.
Miami is 5-0 this season and ranked No. 2 in the AP Top 25 poll. South Carolina is 3-2 and unranked.
