Mitch Kupchak Doesn't Want To Talk About Byron Scott
Byron Scott is a very bad basketball coach. That wasn’t much of a problem for the Lakers last season, when all they wanted to do was lose as many games as possible, but his ineptitude matters a lot more now that he’s responsible for the development of some key young players. It will be an even bigger problem in the near future, when the Lakers expect to start winning again.
All that said, it’s a little bit surprising to see reports that the Lakers are “torn” over what to do about Scott. It seems obvious that a coach who’s been as bad as Scott has should be fired, but the Los Angeles Times’ that some people in the organization want to see what he can do with a better roster.
Is one of the people in Scott’s corner Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak? Let’s see:
That first non-answer is pretty standard stuff, but that second question offered the perfect opportunity to give Scott at least a tepid vote of confidence. The fact that Kupchak zoomed right past it is pretty telling.
