Mookie Betts, Tyler Glasnow lead streaking Dodgers past Blue Jays
Mookie Betts had three hits, one RBI and a stolen base, right-hander Tyler Glasnow struck out nine and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Dodgers have won the first two games of the three-game series. They are 5-0 to open a nine-game road trip and have won six in a row overall.
The Blue Jays have lost five in a row, including the first two games of a six-game homestand.
Toronto left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (2-2) allowed four runs, nine hits and no walks with three strikeouts in six innings.
Glasnow (5-1) allowed one run, two hits and three walks in six-plus innings. He left the game with cramps.
The Dodgers scored a run in the first inning. Betts led off with a triple when center fielder Daulton Varsho tried to make a diving catch on a sinking drive. The ball went to the wall. Freddie Freeman hit a one-out sacrifice fly to center.
Los Angeles added two in the second. Enrique Hernandez and Andy Pages led off with singles. Chris Taylor hit a one-out RBI single and Shohei Ohtani hit a two-out RBI single.
The Dodgers took a 4-0 lead in the fourth. Miguel Rojas doubled, took third on Taylor's sacrifice bunt and scored on Betts' single to left.
Kikuchi retired his final eight batters before Genesis Cabrera replaced him to start the seventh inning. Cabrera retired two batters around an error and a single before he was replaced by Yimi Garcia, who finished the inning.
Danny Jansen led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and scored on a double to left by Davis Schneider.
Joe Kelly replaced Glasnow after a visit from the trainer.
Ryan Brasier pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth for the Dodgers with two strikeouts.
Evan Phillips earned his eighth save of the season after giving up an unearned run in the ninth. Phillips's two-base throwing error on Schneider's two-out comebacker was followed by Cavan Biggio's RBI single.
