Morgan Freeman Celebrity Guest Picking on College Game Day Will Be Iconic

Just when you want to be out on ESPN’s College Game Day, they find a way to pull you back in.

Earlier this week, Awful Announcing slammed the most popular college football pregame show for losing its identity. They’ve faced plenty of scrutiny since adding Pat McAfee to the roundtable, as his bold, loud personality is certainly different from traditional pregame shows from decades ago.

Most recently, Game Day brought on Ted Cruz ahead of Ohio State’s matchup in Austin with Texas, a game that the Longhorns would eventually pull off an improbable upset. The ESPN broadcast picked up an anti-Cruz chant from the students in the audience, only added to the attention the appearance garnered.

But on Thursday, legendary actor Morgan Freeman was announced as the celebrity guest picker for College Game Day this upcoming Saturday.

And that’s an iconic, legendary, home run pick that will undoubtedly reach millions of impressions via social media, but also pull in really good television ratings, too. In 2024, Timothée Chalamet broke the internet with his unexpected, deep ball knowledge and expert picks. Now, Freeman gets his turn.

Freeman joined McAfee on his ESPN show on Thursday and voluntarily previewed Thursday Night Football between the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills.

“You got meat eaters and meat coming together,” Freeman said. “No prediction, I’m just saying.”

He also planted his flag as a believer in the Kansas City Chiefs for this upcoming season.

But on Saturday, all eyes will be on Freeman’s predictions from The Grove in Oxford, Mississippi for Ole Miss versus LSU. It’s the matchup of the weekend, and another game that will undoubtedly pull huge eyeballs as Lane Kiffin will face his formal school. Already, LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt has been listed as doubtful.

There will be so much build up and anticipation ahead of this game, adding Freeman into the mix just makes it better. Hearing his analysis on some of the other games on this weekend’s slate from those legendary pipes will certainly be must-see television.

The 89-year-old is a well-known supporter of Ole Miss, and could have some really good jabs to lob in Kiffin’s direction on the broadcast. Although he was born in Memphis, Freeman grew up in Mississippi and frequently attends Ole Miss sporting events.

Freeman has been on the biggest stages, apart of the biggest productions during his time in Hollywood. But now he’ll put his ball knowledge to the test on College Game Day, and certainly, America will be tuned in to see how his picks perform.
