NBC picks Paul Azinger's replacement for Hero World Challenge

NBC has promoted Curt Byrum into the lead analyst role for next week's Hero World Challenge, replacing Paul Azinger.
Byrum, 64, won his lone PGA Tour event at the Hardee's Golf Classic in 1989 and has worked as an analyst for the Golf Channel since 2001.
Azinger's contract was not renewed after serving as the broadcaster's lead analyst since Johnny Miller retired in 2019. According to a report by Sports Illustrated, the sides decided to part ways after Azinger countered a contract offer made by NBC that would have resulted in a pay cut.
"We want to thank Paul for his work with us over the last five years," NBC said in a statement. "His insights, work ethic and relationships in the golf industry are well known, and we appreciate what he brought to our team. We wish Paul the best in his future endeavors."
Azinger's departure is among additional cuts across NBC's golf coverage that includes parting ways with on-course analysts Gary Koch and Roger Maltbie last November.
Who will replace Azinger full-time remains to be seen, but NBC will promote Byrum to the position at least for Tiger Woods' annual event.
Woods will be making his return following ankle surgery six months ago and will be among a 20-player field for the invitational at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas. Reigning FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland is the defending event champion as well.
