Lindsey Horan (10) of the United States reacts after making a successful penalty kick against Canada in the 2024 SheBelieves Cup championship soccer match on Tuesday at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio. The U.S. Women's National Team revealed the roster Tuesday for next month's friendlies against South Korea.
The matches on June 1 in Commerce City, Colo., and June 4 in St. Paul, Minn., will be the last ones before the 2024 Paris Olympics team is announced.
They also will be the first matches under the direction of head coach Emma Hayes since she replaced Vlatko Andonovski.
"I'm really looking forward to getting started," Hayes said. "The preparations have been well underway and I can't wait to get into camp. We know it's a short turnaround and we have a lot of work to do, but I'm fully focused on making sure that the performances are at the levels that are required to compete.
"I want to build on the work that (former interim head coach and now assistant coach) Twila (Kilgore) has been implementing over the last six months. I expect complete commitment from everyone to absorb very quickly the things that I value as the most important so that we can compete this summer. I know they are a highly coachable group and I'm looking forward to challenging them. It's time to go to work. I can't wait to meet the fans and it's really time to get behind the team as we get closer to putting a roster together for the Olympics."
The 23-member roster includes 19 players who helped the USWNT win the 2024 SheBelieves Cup in April, led by captain and midfielder Lindsey Horan (146 caps) and fellow longtime veterans like forwards Alex Morgan (223) and Crystal Dunn (145).
Midfielder Rose Lavelle returns to the lineup after recovering from a lower leg injury and needs two caps to reach 100.
Three players have not yet been capped, including 16-year-old midfielder Lily Yohannes, defender Sam Staab and midfielder Hal Hershfelt.
Eighteen of the players are currently on NWSL rosters and five compete in Europe.
