The 24-year-old Bronx native is locked up through the 2028-29 MLS season with an option for 2029-30.
"We're delighted to have Tayvon continue with New York City FC," sporting director Todd Dunivant said. "Tayvon has established himself as an important member of our club and as a top right-back in the League. His lockdown defensive mentality is what sets him apart, and we look forward to having Tayvon continue to play a key role with the club moving forward."
Gray has three goals and 15 assists in 175 appearances across all competitions with NYCFC since 2020.
He helped the team win the MLS Cup in 2021 and the Campeones Cup in 2022.
"I'm grateful and honored to continue my journey with New York City FC," Gray said. "This is my club, and I'm proud of everything we've accomplished together, but I'm hungry for more. I want to keep winning, continue helping this group, and be part of this next chapter as we look ahead to Etihad Park."
