What they're saying about New York's 21-17 win over Dallas in the NFC Playoffs, plus maybe a few notes about San Diego's AFC win over Indianapolis as well ...
• Giants 21, Cowboys 17: A Big, Fat Choke. (The Cowboys) gave the game to the Giants in every way possible- offensively, defensively, special teams. Every single way. Remember that playoff drought? It's going to continue. The 2008 season will be year 12.We might need to look very closely at another team still in the playoffs for some inspiration: San Diego, which tanked its divisional round game last season only to rebound and make it to the AFC Championship Game. For us, this offseason is going to be even more unbearable than last year. [ Know Your Dallas Cowboys]
• Disappointing? Absolutely. Terminal? Absolutely Not. I've seen worse. I watched the '79 Cowboys beat the Redskins 35-34 in the season finale to win the NFC East and the #1 seed, then blow a 21-19 divisional round game to a 9-7 Rams team they had beaten 28-0 in the '78 NFC title game and 30-6 in the '79 regular season. • Jerry Jones Adds Fuel To The Giants' Fire. According to a report on ESPN by Ed Werder (which I didn't see because I was driving to Texas Stadium), when Jerry Jones gave each Cowboys player their tickets to today's divisional playoff game, he also gave them two tickets to next Sunday's NFC championship game. Someone in the Giants organization saw the report, and you better believe that information was passed along to the players. [ New York Daily News]
• Cowboys Fall To New York. Dallas couldn't get it done with seconds left on the clock. Perhaps Romo isn't the guy for the Cowboys. May be Brian is right. It may be time to get Brady Quinn in here. [ The Cowboy Roundup]
• Giants Move On, Cowboys Move Out. How sweet was that? A 21-17 victory, in Dallas, over the Cowboys to get to the NFC Championship Game. Short of winning the Super Bowl, this is as good as it can get for Giants' fans. I have to admit, I'm a little stunned right now. A few weeks ago, I wasn't even sure the Giants would make the playoffs. [ Big Blue View]
• Colts Lose 28-24. It's a very, very, very bitter pill to swallow, but the reality is the Chargers made the plays and the Colts did not. Recap coming. I'm still de-toxing from today's loss, trying to figure out why Marvin Harrison (who was obviously not even 40% let alone 100%) was not IRed months ago. Bill Polian has some serious explaining to do. • On To Foxboro. I need someplace to put these thoughts or my wife would divorce me. Seriously, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Yes, it would take a historic upset. I will be discarding, rather than burning since it is too messy, all Seau jerseys today. It is true that the season is now a success. However, tomorrow is a history and today is a gift. We don't know when we will get this close again even against a seemingly unstoppable opponent. As Kumar said to Harold when he left his cellphone in his dorm room, we've gone too far.
