NFL Week Thirteen, Update #2
• I don't think teams that have realistic hopes of winning the Super Bowl have a lot of days where they allow multiple 100+ yard rushers. David Garrard is 8-of-14... and the Jags are still beating up the Colts. Maurice Jones Drew has 166 yards and 2 TDs, while Fred Taylor has 131 and 1 TD. Even a fellow named Alvin Pearman is in on the action, racking up 47 yards and a touchdown. I think this says way more about the Colts than it does the Jaguars. It's 44-17 Jags, with a few minutes left.
• Nick Saban is a pretty good coach... in December. His Dolphins managed a 21-0 shutout of the Patriots today, behind a 25-carry, 123-yard performance from Sammy Morris. Marty Booker also had 8 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Tom Brady was hurt late for the Patriots, though I don't know how serious it is. Matt Cassel got a few snaps at the end of the game. I don't anticipate a quarterback controversy.
• Eli Manning eventually stepped up and won the highly anticipated battle between him and Chris Weinke. Convincingly, even. Eli's 172 yards aren't overly impressive, but he had three touchdowns and 0 interceptions, which is about the opposite of his norm recently. Tiki Barber went for over 100 yards, and the Giants... the Giants are very much alive. They might be the best of the bad NFC teams that are still gunning for a wildcard spot. Giants lead late, 27-13.
