Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Noah Lyles matched Usain Bolt's record with his fourth consecutive world outdoor 200-meter championship on Friday in Tokyo.
The 28-year-old American sprinter finished in 19.52 seconds at the 2025 World Athletics Championships to follow up his gold medals in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Bolt also won the event four times in a row from 2009-15.
Lyles edged countryman Kenny Bednarek (19.58) and Jamaica's Bryan Levell (19.64) to claim the top of the podium. It was the fourth silver medal in the 200 for Bednarek, two at the Olympics and two at worlds.
Since placing fourth at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials as an 18-year-old, Lyles has lost only three times in outdoor 200 races, including bronze medals at the last two Olympics in Tokyo and Paris.
It was the second medal in Tokyo for Lyles. The reigning Olympic 100-meter champion won the bronze in that event on Sunday, finishing behind Jamaicans Oblique Seville and Kishane Thompson.
