Mandatory Credit: Susan Mullane-Imagn Images Tunisia's Ons Jabeur will miss the rest of 2024 with a shoulder injury, aiming for a January return in Australia.
Currently ranked No. 22 in the world, Jabeur announced her decision Monday on social media.
"This year has been extremely hard for me and as athletes, we know that recovery is part of the journey," she posted on X. "Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical team and I've made the difficult decision to step off the tennis circuit for the rest of the season.
"While I'm taking time to heal, I'll be dedicating myself to charity work and ensuring that we make a real difference in the world."
Jabeur has won five titles on the WTA Tour and has been the runner-up at three Grand Slams: Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023 and the U.S. Open in 2022. She reached a career-high ranking of No. 2 in June 2022.
"I will see you back on the court in Australia 2025," she concluded her post, referencing either the Australian Open or one of its warm-up tournaments.
