OpTic Texas outlast Toronto, stay unbeaten at CDL Stage 3 qualifying

OpTic Texas rallied for a 3-2 victory over Toronto KOI and improved to 3-0 on Saturday in the second week of qualifying for the Call of Duty League's Stage 3.

The Carolina Royal Ravens (1-3), Miami Heretics (1-1) and Riyadh Falcons (1-2) also were winners on Saturday.

The 12 Call of Duty League teams are playing a full qualifying round robin to determine seeding for the third major of the season, to be held May 15-17 as part of the DreamHack Atlanta event.

The Carolina Royals Ravens started strong on Saturday, winning on Colossus Hardpoint 250-138 before Cloud9 New York drew even with a 6-4 triumph on Raid Search and Destroy. Carolina won the next two maps, 5-0 on Den Overload and 250-247 on Den Hardpoint, to clinch the match.

Logan "Lurqxx" Brown of the United States earned match MVP honors with 104 kills and a plus-22 kill-death differential for the Royal Ravens. Teammate Jay "Craze" Malhi of the U.S. had 109 kills and a plus-21 K-D differential.

The Miami Heretics followed a similar pattern in defeating FaZeVegas 3-1 -- starting with a 250-158 win on Sake Hardpoint. Vegas drew level with a 6-3 decision on Plaza Search and Destroy before Miami closed out the match with wins on Scar Overload (5-3) and Den Hardpoint (250-87).

Spain's David "RenKoR" Isern was the match MVP with 78 kills and a plus-16 K-D differential for Miami. Teammate and fellow Spaniard Adrian "MettalZ" Serrano had 84 kills and a plus-16 differential.

The Riyadh Falcons went up 2-0 on Vancouver -- winning on Den Hardpoint (250-113) and Fringe Search and Destroy (6-4). The Surge rallied with a 4-2 victory on Scar Overload before the Falcons secured the match with a 250-148 triumph on Gridlock Hardpoint.

McArthur "Cellium" Jovel of the United States was selected the match MVP with 83 kills and a plus-27 K-D differential for the Falcons.

OpTic Texas fell behind by losing the opening map before coming through for a 3-2 win over Toronto KOI. Toronto captured Sake Hardpoint (250-238), then Texas tied it with a 6-3 win on Plaza Search and Destroy. KOI again went up, taking Scar Overload 5-3. But Texas won on Colossus Hardpoint 250-159 and Den Search and Destroy 6-3 to take the match.

Bandon "Dashy" Otell of Canada was match MVP with 98 kills and a plus-5 K-D differential for OpTic.
