Holliday, 22, has been working his way back to the majors since fracturing a hamate bone in batting practice prior to the start of spring training in February.
He underwent surgery and played 11 rehab games at Triple-A Norfolk from March 27 to April 12 and two games at High-A Fredericksburg on April 18-19.
But the former No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2022 MLB Draft was removed from Norfolk's game against Memphis on April 24 after he experienced discomfort during a swing.
He returned May 7 and played three games for Double-A Chesapeake, then rejoined Norfolk and hit his first home run for the Tides on Saturday.
The Orioles were having Holliday take ground balls at third base over the past two weeks. He has played second base in 195 major league games and 11 at shortstop.
Holliday struggled in 2024, but hit .242 with 17 home runs and 55 RBIs in 586 at-bats (149 games) in 2025. He also stole 17 bases.
In a corresponding move, the Orioles optioned third catcher Maverick Handley to Norfolk. Handley, who was summoned when outfielder Dylan Beavers was place on the 10-day injured list on May 13, only had one plate appearance.
