Orioles sign/activate utility man Cooper Hummel

The Baltimore Orioles signed utility man Cooper Hummel to a free-agent deal and activated him to the active roster Sunday.
In a corresponding move, infielder Terrin Vavra was designated for assignment.
Hummel, 30, was released from his minor league contract by the New York Yankees on Saturday.
He batted .258 with two RBIs and six runs in 10 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Hummel also spent time with the Houston Astros in spring training before he was designated for assignment right before Opening Day.
In parts of three major league seasons for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2022), Seattle Mariners (2023) and Astros (2024), Hummel is a career .159 hitter with three home runs and 17 RBIs.
Vavra, 28, was batting .245 with five RBIs in 27 games for the Orioles this season and was a .254 hitter with one home run and 17 RBIs in 67 games over the past two seasons with the club.
Baltimore also optioned left-hander Trevor Rogers to Triple-A after he was the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox.
