Mandatory Credit: Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports Gunnar Henderson hit a grand slam during Baltimore's five-run second inning and the Orioles went on to defeat the visiting Boston Red Sox 6-1 on Wednesday night.
Starter Corbin Burnes gave up one unearned run in seven innings as the Orioles took the rubber match of the three-game series and improved to 5-1 against the Red Sox this year. Ramon Urias also homered for Baltimore, which picked up its sixth victory in its past seven games overall.
Henderson's 18th home run of the season moved him into a share of the major league lead. It was his first long ball in five games.
Burnes (5-2) allowed three hits and issued three walks while striking out five. Danny Coulombe and Dillon Tate each worked a scoreless inning of relief.
The Red Sox were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and produced only six singles in the game.
Boston starter Kutter Crawford (2-4) recovered from the rough second inning by breezing through four shutout innings to close his outing. In his six frames, Crawford yielded the five runs on four hits. He walked two and fanned five.
The Red Sox struck first for a 1-0 lead on Dominic Smith's run-scoring fielder's-choice grounder in the second inning. That drove in Connor Wong, who made a nice slide on the play and ended up with two hits.
All of the Orioles' second-inning runs came with two outs. Baltimore's first run came on Urias' RBI single, and the Orioles then loaded the bases for Henderson.
One walk aided the uprising, and Colton Cowser was hit by a pitch to open the frame.
Urias capped the scoring with a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning against reliever Chase Anderson. It was Urias' second homer of the season.
Ryan Mountcastle also finished with two hits for the Orioles.
