Ostensible Adult Kevin Garnett Deleted Ray Allen's Phone Number When He Left For The Heat
We already knew Kevin Garnett was passionate—which is to say, basically crazy—and it undoubtedly hurts to see your teammate essentially give up on your team, publicly and in favor of a rival. What happened to Ubuntu? What happened to...(*sniff*)...us?
Masslive.com was at the Celtics' media day:
Ray Allen, after leaving for the Miami Heat, is no longer Garnett's brother. Actually, Garnett doesn't even have Allen's number anymore, even though the two spent five seasons together and helped each other win their first (and only, so far) NBA championship.
"I don't have Ray's number anymore. I'm not trying to communicate with him," Garnett said Friday at the Boston Celtics 2012 media day, according to WEEI's Ben Rohrbach.
As the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett notes, Allen's number hasn't changed, so that's a forcible and pointed act of number deletion from Garnett. Unconfirmed sources tell us that Garnett then drew an X through Allen's face on the picture on the inside of his locker, before tearing the picture down altogether and using it as a place to put his bubblegum until recess.
Incidentally, former Celtic Keyon Dooling revealed in the course of announcing his retirement yesterday that he had been the victim of abuse for years as a child, and that he would turn down a new contract with the Celtics to spend more time with his family. But Kevin Garnett is the tough guy.
