Mandatory Credit: Robert Deutsch-Imagn Images Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young left in the third quarter of Sunday afternoon's 13-6 win over the New York Jets at East Rutherford, N.J., with a right ankle injury and did not return.
Young, who threw a second-quarter pass for the game's only touchdown through three quarters, completed 15 of 25 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown. He was injured on a third-quarter sack by Jets defensive tackle Jowon Briggs.
Carolina coach Dave Canales didn't have an update after the game, citing a need to further evaluate the injury.
"We're taking all the information and we're going to look at him when we get home some more," Canales said in his postgame press conference.
The Athletic reported that initial X-rays on the ankle came back negative, with Young slated for MRI tests to help determine the severity of the injury.
Veteran QB Andy Dalton replaced Young and finished 4-of-7 passing for 60 yards.
The Panthers (4-3) led 13-3 going to the fourth quarter.
Young, in his sixth season, has started all seven games and is 138-of-224 passing for 1,288 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. Dalton, in his 15th NFL season, is 9-for-13 for 118 yards, one touchdown and no picks in three appearances this season. He started five of his six games in 2024 and went 1-4 with a total of 989 yards, seven TDs and six interceptions.
Canales was asked about adjusting to Dalton if Young cannot play next Sunday against the Buffalo Bills (4-2).
"We'll look at all that and see what the best version of us is, but right now it's running the football, and Andy can handle all those things," Canales said. "The pass game, the reps, the time on task with the group that we have, we've got to stay within the core of our system. Andy's fully involved in all that. If he does play, that'll be the mode."
The Jets (0-7) also made a second-half quarterback move, benching Justin Fields in favor of Tyrod Taylor.
