Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images With his assist on Bryan Rust's first-period goal against the visiting Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday, Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby became just the 10th player in NHL history to reach the 1,600-point plateau.
Crosby, 37, achieved the milestone in the 1,277th game of his illustrious career and has 592 goals and 1,008 assists, good for 10th on the league's all-time scoring list.
With eight more goals, Crosby -- a three-time Stanley Cup champion and eight-time All-Star -- will join another exclusive club, becoming the ninth player with at least 600 goals and 1,000 assists.
This season, Crosby's 20th after being selected No. 1 overall by Pittsburgh in 2005, the longtime Penguins captain has four assists in five games.
Crosby's teammate since 2005-06, Evgeni Malkin, entered Wednesday's one goal shy of 500. With his next goal, the 38-year-old Russian native will be the 48th player to reach that plateau. Malkin, who also assisted on Rust's goal, has 1,304 points (499 goals, 805 assists) in 1,150 games.
In his 19th season since the Penguins drafted him No. 2 overall in 2004, Malkin has one goal and seven points in five games this season.
