Phillies' Bryce Harper, plunked on arm, should be OK
Feb 26, 2025; Dunedin, Florida, USA; Philadelphia Phillies first base Bryce Harper (3) is hit by a pitch against the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth inning during spring training at TD Ballpark. Mandatory Credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images Philadelphia star Bryce Harper exited the Phillies' spring training game on Wednesday after getting hit by a pitch on his right arm in Dunedin, Fla. He likely escaped a serious injury.
Harper was drilled by a 92 mph sinker from Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Richard Lovelady in the top of the sixth inning and left the Phillies' 9-6 victory. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and the HBP.
Harper, 32, was hit close to his right elbow, which was surgically repaired in 2022.
Following the game, Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Harper was "fine, I think. The trainer's report -- we'll check him tomorrow -- but it's a contusion in the triceps area. We're not overly concerned at all."
Harper was replaced by pinch runner Matt Kroon. Josh Breaux took over for Harper at first base.
A two-time National League Most Valuable Player, Harper slugged 30 home runs in 2024 and has 336 for his career.
