Rangers activate SS Corey Seager prior to Astros series

The Texas Rangers activated shortstop Corey Seager from the 10-day injured list on Friday to highlight six roster moves made prior to the opener of their three-game series against the Houston Astros.

In addition to regaining Seager's services for the first time since he injured his lower back on June 30, the Rangers added recently acquired right-handed reliever Chase Silseth to the 26-man roster and recalled right-handed reliever Luis Curvelo from Triple-A Round Rock.

To accommodate the trio, the Rangers sent infielder Josh Smith and reliever Winston Santos to Triple-A while designating left-handed reliever Marco Gonzales for assignment.

Seager, 32, is in the middle of the least effective season of his 12-year career. In 51 games, the powerful lefty has posted a .182/.292/.374 slash line with 10 homers and 25 RBIs.

Silseth, 26, came to the Rangers along with catcher Logan O'Hoppe on Wednesday in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels. Silseth pitched 47 games in relief this year for the Angels and produced a 3-2 record and 2.72 ERA with 48 strikeouts and 22 walks in 39 2/3 innings.

Curvelo, 25, has been promoted and demoted multiple times this season. In eight appearances for the Rangers, he has fashioned a 7.56 ERA over 8 1/3 innings.
