Rangers RHP Michael Lorenzen activated, set to start Monday
The World Series champion Texas Rangers will finally be able to see one of their key offseason acquisitions Monday night when right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen, who was activated earlier Monday from 15-day injured list, makes a road start against the Detroit Tigers.
In a corresponding move, the Rangers optioned right-hander Yerry Rodriguez to Triple-A Round Rock.
Lorenzen signed a one-year deal March 22. He began the season on the IL due to a neck strain and has made three rehab starts with Round Rock, allowing eight runs in 11 1/3 innings pitched.
Lorenzen did not pitch during spring training.
With Detroit and the Philadelphia Phillies last season, he went 9-9 with a 4.18 ERA over 29 games (25 starts).
Lorenzen was a first-time All-Star en route to establishing career highs for strikeouts (111), innings pitched (153) and victories.
The high point of Lorenzen's 2023 season was throwing a no-hitter for the Phillies in his second start with the club Aug. 9 against the Washington Nationals.
During his nine years in the majors, Lorenzen has a 40-38 record, 15 saves and a 4.11 ERA over 342 games (69 starts) with the Cincinnati Reds (2015-21), Los Angeles Angels (2022), Detroit and Philadelphia.
