Rapids look to get back in win colum vs. hapless Galaxy

Mandatory Credit: Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images Hovering just above the playoff line in the Western Conference standings, the Colorado Rapids hope to shake a three-game losing streak when they get a visit from the disappointing Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday in Commerce City, Colo.
The Rapids (6-8-4, 22 points) return from a 10-day break following a pair of shutout losses at home. The most recent was a 1-0 loss against Orlando City.
Djordje Mihailovic leads the team with seven goals and has added three assists, but he hasn't found the back of the net since a May 28 loss to the Portland Timbers.
Colorado did see midfielder Cole Bassett make his return from an ankle injury in the loss to Orlando City after missing the previous four games.
"Listen, we're not going anywhere. We have a lot to play for," Rapids head coach Chris Armas said. "So much of the season is left, let's say half a season. Lots of home games are coming up, so we just have to get back to work. After the break, we'll get ready to go."
The Galaxy (1-12-5, 8 points) not only endured the longest losing streak to start a season by a defending champion, the 16 games to open the season without a win was the longest run in league history.
Los Angeles finally ended its skid with a 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake on May 31. The club is now on a two-game points streak after a 3-3 tie at St. Louis City on June 14.
But that tie was fraught with disappointment after the Galaxy took a 3-2 lead in the 87th minute on the second goal of the game from Gabriel Pec, then missed out on the full three points when St. Louis City scored in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.
"There's a lot of things (that were) challenging and we still put ourselves in position to win, but given what we're trying to do in terms of learning to put results and points on the board and being better in that regard, it definitely feels like two lost (points) at the end," Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney said. "The guys are definitely frustrated from that side of things."
