Reds RHP Hunter Greene (elbow) returns to injured list
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene (21) pitches in the sixth inning between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on Friday, July 31, 2026. The Cincinnati Reds placed right-handed starter Hunter Greene on the 15-day injured list with right elbow soreness on Wednesday, continuing an injury plagued season.
The move was retroactive to Sunday. In a corresponding move, the Reds recalled right-hander Luis Mey from Triple-A Louisville.
Greene, who turns 27 on Thursday, did not make his season debut until July 4 after being on the injured list since the end of March following surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow.
In his last outing on Friday, Greene allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings of an 8-7 home win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Greene is 2-2 with a 6.83 ERA, nine walks and 33 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings over five starts this season.
For his career, Greene is 27-31 with a 3.82 ERA, 188 walks and 650 strikeouts in 523 1/3 innings over 96 starts since 2022. He was an All-Star in 2024, and missed nearly three months in 2025 because of a strained right groin.
Cincinnati selected Greene second overall in the 2017 MLB Draft.
Mey, 25, is 0-0 with a 7.27 ERA, 10 walks and 14 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings over seven relief appearances for the Reds this season. He was 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA, 26 walks and 51 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings over 32 games (one start) for Louisville.
He went 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA in 23 relief appearances as a rookie last season.
