Reds score 24 runs, destroy Orioles in series finale

Austin Wynns had a home run, five singles and drove in six runs and Noelvi Marte had a grand slam as one of his five hits and finished with seven RBIs as the Cincinnati Reds ripped the host Baltimore Orioles 24-2 in Sunday afternoon's series finale.

Austin Hays supplied four hits and scored four runs, and Elly De La Cruz homered as the Reds won for the second time in the three-game series. Every starter in Cincinnati's lineup had at least one hit.

The Reds were in a bit of a bind going into the game with available pitchers for long stints, but Brent Suter was the starter and gave up one unearned run in three innings.

By the time Ian Gibaut went to the mound in the bottom of the fourth, the Reds held a 10-1 lead. Taylor Rogers (1-0) was the winner with one inning of work and Randall Wynne was awarded a save with three innings.

Charlie Morton (0-5) remains without a victory in five starts for the Orioles. He was shelled for seven runs in 2 1/3 innings, surrendering seven hits and issuing four walks.

It didn't go much better for Cody Poteet, who was first out of the bullpen, in his Orioles and season big-league debut. He gave up five runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Cincinnati scored multiple runs in six different innings, topped by seven runs in the third and five in the eighth.

Despite the big run total, the Reds had eight extra-base hits, though they drew 11 walks to go with 25 total hits. TJ Friedl roped a triple, and Hays, Marte and Spencer Steer all had doubles. Gavin Lux scored four runs.

Wynns drove in runs in the second, third and fourth innings with singles.

Through seven innings, the Reds were 11-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

By the eighth inning, Baltimore had infielder Jorge Mateo on the mound. Marte's grand slam came off Mateo.

Adley Rutschman hit a solo homer in the eighth for Baltimore.
