Mandatory Credit: Kyle Ross-Imagn Images Liga MX side CF Monterrey is finalizing a deal to acquire Columbus Crew star Diego Rossi, The Athletic reported on Monday.
The Crew will receive a transfer fee of up to $8 million for the 28-year-old Uruguayan forward, who is a four-time MLS All-Star and former Golden Boot winner who helped Columbus win the MLS Cup in 2023.
Rossi has six goals and two assists in 15 MLS matches this season. He has scored 51 goals across all competitions since joining the Crew from Turkey's Fenerbahce in 2023.
Rossi previously played for Los Angeles FC from 2018-22. He led the league with 14 goals in 19 matches in the abbreviated 2020 season. He has recorded 85 goals and 41 assists in 192 regular-season MLS matches.
The move would give the Crew two designated player vacancies, with striker Wessam Abou Ali on the season-ending injured list with a torn ACL.
Columbus entered the FIFA World Cup break in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, two points below the playoff line. The Crew return to action on July 22 at home against New York City FC.
