Mandatory Credit: Amber Searls-Imagn Images Washington Commanders defensive end Deatrich Wise will miss the remainder of the season due to a right quadiceps injury, ESPN reported on Friday.
Wise was carted off the field after a defender landed on his leg during an extra-point attempt in the second quarter of Washington's 27-18 loss to the host Green Bay Packers on Thursday.
Several Commanders teammates surrounded Wise and offered encouraging words as he was placed on the cart.
Wise, 31, took to Instagram on Friday to express his gratitude for all of the well wishes he received.
"I'm truly grateful for all the love, prayers, and support I've received," he posted. "This was an unfortunate experience, but when you give so much to the game and do everything you can to improve for yourself and for your team's success it can feel like there's a lot to play for. When you stop, it can feel like everything around you stops too.
"But I know the best healer. God only puts us through what we can handle, and every challenge carries a lesson. Out of every test comes growth, shaping us into who we need to become to accomplish the goals we set from the start."
Wise recorded four tackles in two games during his first season with the Commanders. He spent his previous eight seasons with the New England Patriots.
