Report: Jets hiring Rex Ryan's son Seth to coaching staff
Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (14) practices as assistant wide receivers coach Seth Ryan watches during OTAs at Detroit Lions headquarters and training facility in Allen Park on Thursday, May 30, 2024. The New York Jets are reportedly hiring Seth Ryan as their passing game coordinator, marking the third generation of the Ryan family to coach for the franchise.
Seth is the son of Rex Ryan, who was head coach of the Jets from 2009-14, and grandson of the late Buddy Ryan, who was the team's defensive line coach from 1968-75.
ESPN first reported the hiring on Saturday.
Rex Ryan had a 61-66 record with two playoff appearances as the Jets' head coach, and Buddy Ryan helped the Jets win the franchise's only championship in Super Bowl III.
Seth Ryan, 31, spent the past five seasons on the Detroit Lions' coaching staff, working with the wide receivers and tight ends. He crossed paths with Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who was Detroit's defensive coordinator from 2021-24.
