Report: Mets place OF Luis Robert Jr. on waivers

The New York Mets placed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on waivers, per MLB.com.

The former All-Star, who pinch-hit during the Mets' 6-2 win over the Houston Astros on Saturday, has posted 10 home runs and 23 RBIs with a .229/.308/.407 slash line in 57 games this season.

Those numbers include a strong push in August as he has amassed six home runs and 11 RBIs with a .282/.338/.557 line over 23 games. His ability to play center field could make him appealing to contenders, as well.

Robert was an All-Star in 2023 with the Chicago White Sox, blasting 38 home runs and stealing 20 bases. However, injuries and inconsistency have hampered his production and value.

The 29-year-old is owed roughly $3 million for the rest of this season. He also carries a $20 million club option for next season, though there's a $2 million buyout. With the Mets out of playoff contention, it is not surprising to see them trying to shed some salary.
