Sokolowski-Imagn Images The Edmonton Oilers will reportedly interview Craig Berube for their vacant head coaching job after receiving permission from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Berube was fired by the Leafs on May 13 following two seasons with the team. The Oilers fired Kris Knoblauch on May 13 following a loss to the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After losing in the Stanley Cup Final in each of the last two seasons under Knoblauch, the Oilers' first-round exit spurred calls for change.
Berube had an 84-62-18 record with the Maple Leafs, but the team finished 15th in the Eastern Conference with just 78 points in the 2025-26 season. Berube previously coached the St. Louis Blues from 2018 to 2024 and the Philadelphia Flyers from 2013 to 2015, winning the Stanley Cup in his first season with the Blues in 2018-19.
He has a career record of 365-252-90.
The Oilers also reportedly made a formal request to interview former Vegas Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy, but have not received permission to interview him as of Monday morning, according to The Athletic.
