Mandatory Credit: Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports New Orleans Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon is expected to join the Detroit Pistons as president of basketball operations, ESPN reported on Thursday.
The 48-year-old Langdon, per ESPN, will have the authority to make alterations and rebuild the struggling organization following a 14-win campaign.
Langdon has spent the past five seasons building a contender under Pelicans president David Griffin after three seasons as an assistant GM under Sean Marks with the Brooklyn Nets.
Among the players drafted while Langdon was part of those organizations were Zion Williamson, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, Herb Jones and Trey Murphy III.
Langdon will meet with Pistons GM Troy Weaver and coach Monty Williams as the team prepares for the draft, beginning June 26. Detroit has the No. 5 overall pick and plenty of salary cap space to pursue free agents.
Langdon was the No. 11 pick in the 1999 draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers after reaching All-American status at Duke. He played three seasons for the Cavs (1999-2002), averaging 5.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 119 games (five starts).
He was named to the EuroLeague's all-decade in 2010 after winning two championships along with a Final Four MVP award at CSKA Moscow.
