Report: Russell Westbrook Signs Five-Year, $205 Million Extension With Thunder
Photo: Sue Ogrocki/ [object Object] According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Russell Westbrook has signed a five-year extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder worth $205 million. Westbrook now has the most lucrative contract in NBA history, just a touch higher than the new deals signed by Steph Curry and James Harden this summer.
The extension should quiet talk that Westbrook would head to Los Angeles after his contract was up this season (or next season, if he accepted a player option). The MVP is now locked in for another half-decade.
With Carmelo Anthony on the books for two seasons—assuming he accepts his $28 million 2018-19 player option—and Westbrook now set in OKC for a long time, the Thunder can now present Paul George, whose deal expires after this season, with a very stable base of stars. Of course, it remains to be seen how the three will play together in their first season, but locking up Westbrook is the most important transaction the Thunder made this year.
