Mandatory Credit: Dennis Schneidler-Imagn Images Dallas Stars veteran center Tyler Seguin will miss the rest of the 2025-26 regular season and playoffs, NHL sources informed multiple media outlets on Friday.
According to the league, the club filed official paperwork that will free up an additional $6 million worth of salary-cap space in advance of the league's March 6 trade deadline. The Stars were already utilizing $3.82 million in cap space and now can use his entire $9.85 million.
The transaction must be approved by the NHL and the NHL Players' Association.
Seguin, an alternate captain, played in New York against the Rangers on Dec. 2, but left the game early after a collision with defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov.
He was assisted from the ice and underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
The club said his status would be re-evaluated after the Olympic break.
Seguin has played in 16 NHL seasons, totaling 367 goals and 459 assists for 826 points in 1,016 games. He won a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in his rookie campaign of 2010-11.
After three seasons in Boston, he was traded to Dallas. Seguin was a model of consistency, playing no less than 68 games for the Stars in 10 of his first 11 seasons.
But he underwent hip surgery and played in only 20 games in 2024-25 and appeared in 27 games this year.
The Stars are third in the Western Conference with 79 points through 58 games.
