Report: Texas Southern hiring Corey Lowery as head coach

Texas Southern reportedly is set to hire Seton Hall assistant Corey Lowery as its new men's basketball coach.

The deal is pending approval from the school's board of regents, CBS Sports reported.

Lowery joined Seton Hall coach Shaheen Holloway's staff at Seton Hall in 2022 after two seasons as the head coach at Division II Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He helped the Pirates win the NIT championship in 2023-24.

Texas Southern was the lone remaining Division I program without a permanent head coach.

Johnny Jones resigned on April 7 after eight seasons with the Tigers to join Will Wade's staff at LSU. Texas Southern, which competes in the SWAC, named assistant Shyrone Chatman as interim coach.
