Kemp, 32, opened the season with Baltimore but was designated for assignment last week when the Orioles called up No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Holliday.
Kemp went unclaimed on waivers and rejected an outright assignment in favor of free agency. Terms of his deal with the Twins were not disclosed.
Minnesota has been hit hard by injuries to its infield this season, losing third baseman Royce Lewis (quad strain) and shortstop Carlos Correa (oblique strain) to the injured list.
Kemp went 0-for-9 with one run, one walk and one strikeout in five games with Baltimore before his departure.
He is a career .237 hitter with 35 homers and 184 RBIs in 739 games with the Houston Astros (2016-19), Chicago Cubs (2019), Oakland A's (2020-23) and Orioles.
