Payton tore a ligament in his left thumb during Tuesday night's loss to the Miami Heat, per the report.
He is averaging 6.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists through 58 games (11 starts) this season.
Payton has career averages of 5.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 266 games (51 starts) over nine seasons with five franchises.
