Mandatory Credit: Jasen Vinlove-Imagn Images The Golden State Warriors are adding Frank Vogel to their bench to serve as the associate head coach to Steve Kerr, ESPN reported Sunday.
Vogel, who coached the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA title in 2020, takes over for Terry Stotts, who left Golden State's staff along with Jerry Stackhouse after the 2025-26 season.
Vogel, 53, spent last season as an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks. It was his first assistant gig after a string of head coaching roles with the Indiana Pacers (2011-16), Orlando Magic (2016-18), Lakers (2019-22) and Phoenix Suns (2023-24).
He has a record of 480-422 as a head coach and has taken teams to the playoffs eight times, including consecutive Eastern Conference finals berths with Indiana in 2013 and 2014 before the Lakers' COVID bubble title.
That year was the lone title the Lakers won with LeBron James, who is believed to be considering the Warriors among other options for his next team.
The Warriors are coming off their worst season since 2019-20. They went 37-45 and qualified for the Western Conference play-in tournament, where they won the opening game against the Clippers before losing to the Suns to be eliminated.
