Mandatory Credit: Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo is expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering an arm fracture during Sunday night's game against the Boston Red Sox.
Rizzo, who underwent testing Monday in New York, sustained a fracture to the radial neck of his right arm, The Athletic reported. The injury occurred when he collided with Red Sox relief pitcher Brennan Bernardino at first base and landed awkwardly on his right hand during Sunday's 9-3 loss at Boston.
Rizzo will not need surgery, according to The Athletic.
"He's in some pain in that lower arm in a number of places," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after Sunday's game. "He'll get a lot of tests (Monday) and see what we're dealing with."
Rizzo, 34, was 0-for-3 before exiting the game. He's batting .223 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs in 70 games this season. The three-time All-Star is hitting .262 with 303 homers for his career with the San Diego Padres (2011), Chicago Cubs (2012-21) and Yankees (2021-24).
The Yankees' most likely path forward, at least in the short term, is to shift DJ LeMahieu from third base to first base and make Oswaldo Cabrera their everyday third baseman.
New York is off until Tuesday, when it begins a three-game home series against the Boston Orioles. The American League East rivals have two of the three-best records in baseball entering the week.
