Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images Canada is set to replace injured defender Mosie Bombito on its 26-player World Cup roster, multiple outlets reported on Sunday.
The 26-year-old center back's surgically repaired left tibia is not sufficiently recovered for the competition that begins next week, multiple sources confirmed to TSN and The Athletic.
Bombito, who has earned 20 caps with Canada since 2023, sustained the leg injury on Oct. 5, 2025 while playing for Nice in a 2-2 draw against Monaco in France's Ligue 1.
Bombito returned in last week's World Cup tune-up against Uzbekistan in Edmonton but limped off the field after 30 minutes to receive treatment on the leg.
Canada has until Thursday at 3 p.m. ET -- 24 hours before its World Cup Group B opener vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto -- to name a replacement from its provisional roster.
Bombito played for the Colorado Rapids before his August 2024 transfer to Nice, recording two goals and two assists in 29 MLS regular-season matches (25 starts) from 2023-24.
