Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images The Kansas City Chiefs and defensive end George Karlaftis agreed to a four-year, $93 million extension, including $62 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports Sunday.
Kansas City selected Karlaftis, 24, in the second round of the 2022 draft. He's grown into a staple of their vaunted defense since. Karlaftis has notched 24.5 sacks, 24 tackles for loss, 56 quarterback hits and 115 total tackles in 49 games (44 starts) over three seasons with the Chiefs.
Pro Football Focus ranked Karlaftis 45th of 211 edge rushers in pass rush. His 61 total pressures ranked 13th at his position and his four batted passes were third-most among edge rushers, according to PFF. The Chiefs' defense has ranked in the top four by points allowed per game in the past two years, during which Karlaftis has ascended.
Kansas City recently exercised Karlaftis' fifth-year option worth $15.2 million in April.
