Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander against the Miami Dolphins during their football game on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.
Wm. Glasheen/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander has stepped away from football to focus on his mental and physical health while still recovering from offseason knee surgery, multiple outlets reported.
Alexander did not travel with the team for Monday night's game at Green Bay and informed the Eagles of his plans on Tuesday, per reports.
On Wednesday, Alexander was placed on the reserve/retired list. The Eagles activated cornerback Jakorian Bennett from injured reserve as well.
Alexander, 28, has appeared in just two games this season. He suited up for the Baltimore Ravens in Weeks 1 and 5 before being traded to the Eagles on Nov. 1.
A two-time Pro Bowl selection in 2020 and 2022, Alexander underwent surgery on his right knee in January.
A first-round pick (18th overall) by Green Bay in 2018, Alexander has 12 interceptions, 70 passes defensed and 292 tackles in 80 career games (76 starts) with the Packers (2018-24), Ravens and Eagles.
