Rebilas-Imagn Images The Seattle Mariners are in agreement with 20-year-old shortstop Colt Emerson on a record-setting eight-year, $95 million extension, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.
The contract value would set a new record for a player who has yet to debut in the major leagues, eclipsing the eight-year, $82 million extension Jackson Chourio signed with the Milwaukee Brewers in December 2023.
The deal includes a ninth-year club option, a full no-trade clause and escalators that could raise the total value to more than $130 million, according to FanSided.
The Mariners selected Emerson with the 22nd overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio.
Emerson slashed .285/.383/.458 with 16 home runs in 78 RBIs in 130 games last season while climbing from High-A Everett to Triple-A Tacoma.
Emerson currently is ranked No. 7 among all major league prospects by MLB Pipeline. He hit .268 with two homers and eight RBIs in 18 games during spring training before reporting to Tacoma.
