Reports: Orioles, RHP Shane Baz near five-year, $68M deal
MLB Baltimore Orioles starter Shane Baz Right-hander Shane Baz and the Baltimore Orioles agreed to a five-year, $68 million contract extension, according to multiple reports Friday.
MLB.com and ESPN reported Baz is expected to sign the deal before he makes his team debut at Camden Yards against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday.
Baz, 26, was acquired in a December trade with the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a package of prospects: catcher Caden Bodine, right-hander Michael Forret and outfielders Slater de Brun and Austin Overn. Baltimore also parted with a competitive balance draft pick late in the first round (31st overall) in 2026.
Baz was 10-12 with a 4.87 ERA in 31 starts for the Rays last season. In four seasons with Tampa Bay, the former No. 12 overall draft pick in 2017 is 17-17 with a 4.25 ERA in 54 starts.
Bodine was the No. 30 overall pick in the 2025 draft out of Coastal Carolina, while de Brun was the No. 37 overall pick out of high school in Bend, Ore.
Forret was a 14th-round pick in 2023 and Overn was a third-round selection in 2024. Both players reached Double-A Chesapeake last season.
