Mandatory Credit: Benny Sieu-Imagn Images Free agent shortstop Willy Adames agreed to a seven-year, $182 million contract with the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, according to multiple sources.
The deal, pending a physical, is the largest in Giants' history. The old mark was a $167 million deal in 2013 for catcher Buster Posey, who is now the franchise's president of baseball operations.
Adames, 29, had spent the past 3 1/2 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers and hit 107 homers in 548 games during the span. Last season, he established career highs of 32 homers and 112 RBIs while batting .251 in 161 games.
Adames also topped 30 homers in 2022 when he went deep 31 times. He has slammed 20 or more homers five times in seven big league seasons.
Adames first reached the majors in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays and spent three-plus seasons with the team.
He had a horrific playoff showing in 2020 when the Rays reached the World Series before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He batted just .136 (8 for 59) and struck out 25 times in 20 games.
The following May, Adames was dealt to the Brewers as part of a four-player trade.
Overall, Adames has a .248 average with 150 homers and 472 RBIs in 880 career games.
