Rick Santorum Secures The All Important Carlos Baerga Endorsement
Here's a fun little jaunt into the political world. Rick Santorum is currently campaigning in Puerto Rico for the primary on Sunday, where 23 delegates will be at stake. Santorum lost one delegate, but managed to unearth Carlos Baerga as a replacement.
While stumping, Santorum told Puerto Rican voters that he supported the cause for statehood—but only if Puerto Rico complied with that super important, not completely imaginary and totally constitutional federal law requiring English as the "main" language.
Shortly thereafter, Santorum lost the support of presidential delegate Oreste Ramos. "'As a question of principle, I cannot back a person who holds that position,' Oreste said." Former Cleveland Indians "slugger," according to the Plain Dealer, happily stepped in and offered his support.
In a press release from the ex-Pennsylvania senator's campaign, Baerga said he backs Santorum "because he is a Christian and has fought for the people of Puerto Rico for many years, and stands behind the people on the issue of statehood."
"I am grateful to have played professional baseball in the United States, and I want all young people to have the same opportunity, and Puerto Rican statehood would make that possible," Baerga's statement continued.
Santorum described himself as a longtime Baerga fan, and said he is "thrilled" to have his endorsement.
Santorum went on to describe himself as a longtime fan of being "full of shit" and "google image searching Carlos Baerga, just to make sure I thank the right guy."
