Ryan McMahon hits walk-off grand slam, Rockies stun Rays
Ryan McMahon hit a walk-off grand slam, and the Colorado Rockies rallied from blowing a four-run lead to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-7 on Friday in Denver.
McMahon finished with three hits, Ezequiel Tovar homered among his two hits and Kris Bryant also went deep for Colorado. Elias Diaz and Nolan Jones also finished with two hits.
The Rockies trailed 7-6 entering the bottom of the ninth, but Tampa Bay closer Pete Fairbanks (0-1) walked the bases loaded with no outs.
Jason Adam relieved Fairbanks and struck out Bryant, but McMahon homered to right on the first pitch he saw to end it. It was his first of the season.
Colorado starter Austin Gomber allowed two runs on four hits, walked three and struck out seven in four innings. Jalen Beeks (1-0) got the final two outs of the top of the ninth.
Harold Ramirez had three hits, including one in the Rays' five-run ninth inning. Amed Rosario also had three hits, and Isaac Paredes and Yandy Diaz added two hits apiece.
Tampa Bay trailed 6-2 after eight but rallied off reliever Justin Lawrence.
Yandy Diaz doubled before Ramirez, Randy Arozarena and Paredes singled to drive in a run and load the bases. Ramirez scored on a groundout, putting runners on second and third, and both came home on Ben Rortvedt's single to tie it.
Rortvedt went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on McMahon's throwing error from third.
Yandy Diaz walked leading off the game. Ramirez singled, and one out later Paredes lined a single to center to bring Diaz home.
The Rockies tied it in the bottom of the first when Brendan Rodgers and Jones hit back-to-back one-out doubles off Zack Littell, but the Rays came right back in the second.
Diaz's single to right gave Littell the lead, and he left after allowing a run on five hits in five innings. He struck out five.
Colorado tied it in the sixth on Elias Diaz's sacrifice fly. Tovar followed with a two-run homer to make it 4-2. It was his second of the season.
Colorado padded its lead in the eighth on Bryant's two-run homer, his first of the season.
