Mandatory Credit: Matt Krohn-Imagn Images Anders Dreyer scored two goals, including a highlight-reel score from near midfield, and also had an assist and Milan Iloski came off the bench to score a brace in the second half as San Diego FC rallied for a 4-2 victory over Minnesota United on Saturday night in St. Paul, Minn.
CJ dos Santos finished with five saves for San Diego (10-5-3, 33 points), which took over sole possession of second place in the Western Conference and moved within two points of the first-place Vancouver Whitecaps (10-2-5, 35 points).
Kelvin Yeboah scored his first goal in almost three months for Minnesota (8-4-6, 30 points), which also picked up an own-goal credited to San Diego defender Christopher McVey. Goaltender Wessel Speel, making his first career MLS start with starter Dayne St. Clair away on international duty for Canada, made three saves for the Loons.
Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on an own-goal when McVey's simple back pass from outside the box hopped over the left foot of dos Santos and rolled into the middle of the net.
San Diego tied it, 1-1, in the 11th minute when Dreyer, just over the midfield line, chipped a long left-footed shot over the 6-foot-7 Speel, who was caught near the top of the box.
The Loons took a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute when an onrushing Yeboah put in a right-footed rebound of a Joaquin Pereyra blast from outside the box. It was Yeboah's fifth goal of the season and snapped an 11-game goal-less drought dating back to his March 22 brace against the LA Galaxy.
San Diego tied it in the 66th minute on Dreyer's left-footed penalty kick that squirted under a diving Speel after Loons defender Anthony Markanich was called for a hand ball in the box.
Iloski then gave the visitors their first lead in the 75th minute with a header in the middle of the box off a crossing pass from Dreyer.
Iloski then sealed the win in the 92nd minute when he scored on a breakaway, beating Speel with a right-footed shot into the left corner.
