Mandatory Credit: Dustin Safranek-Imagn Images Fittingly, the league's newest team produced the 2025 MLS Newcomer of the Year as San Diego FC forward Anders Dreyer earned the honor on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Danish international recorded 38 goal contributions (19 goals, 19 assists), matching the league record for a first-year player set by Sebastian Giovinco with Toronto FC in 2015.
A 2025 MLS All-Star and two-time MLS Player of the Month, Dreyer helped San Diego set expansion club records for wins (19) and points (63) while securing the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
Dreyer, acquired from Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht in January, is the third player to win the award with an expansion team: Miguel Almiron of Atlanta United (2017) and Fredy Montero of the Seattle Sounders (2009).
The award was voted on by MLS club technical staff, media and current players. With 74.11% of the voting total, Dreyer finished far ahead of fellow first-year stars Son Heung-Min of LAFC (6.3%) and Philip Zinckernagel from the Chicago Fire (6.21%).
